Suncorp NZ recognised with excellence award in HR Award

Suncorp New Zealand is proud to announce it has gained an Excellence Award in the Employer of Choice category at the first-ever HR Director New Zealand Awards.

Presented by Human Resources Director New Zealand, the Employer of Choice awards recognise New Zealand’s leading workplaces, noting exceptional leadership, engagement, communication and employee benefits.

Suncorp has been awarded Excellence as an Employer of Choice with more than 200 employees, due to its focus on building the capability of its people and supporting their professional and personal success through flexibility, development opportunities and an inclusive workplace.

Catherine Dixon, Suncorp New Zealand Executive General Manager People and Culture, says: “We want our culture to be one where all employees feel comfortable bringing their whole self to work and are supported to perform at their highest potential.”

“Our commitment to ensuring our people are included and valued has helped our business attract and retain a workforce that is as talented, diverse and passionate as the communities we support.”

Dixon cited Suncorp New Zealand’s longstanding flexible work culture as a key driver of its success, particularly through Covid-19.

“Within 48 hours of the announcement of the nationwide Covid-19 lockdown in March, Suncorp New Zealand enabled 96 per cent of its people to work from home,” she says.

“Now we are focussing on how this has affected our productivity, wellbeing and our customers and looking to further evolve our ways of working for the future.”

In a recent employee survey ‘Positive work from home experience’ was the third highest commentary theme, and ‘appreciative of Suncorp’s support and flexibility’ was another key theme.

Suncorp uses development initiatives such as its Future Ready programme to provide opportunities for its people to upskill, so they are supported to respond to rapidly changing business and customer needs.

Employee sentiment on diversity and inclusion also ranks highly in employee surveys. For example 92 percent of employees believe their leader genuinely supports equality between genders.
