Suncorp announces new Chair of New Zealand boards

23 September 2019

Suncorp today announced the appointment of New Zealand board member David Flacks as Chair of the Suncorp New Zealand Boards, effective 1 October 2019.

Mr Flacks replaces Geoff Ricketts, who is retiring as chair after a significant period of involvement with Suncorp companies in Australia and New Zealand, including Chair of Vero Insurance, Vero Liability, and Asteron Life in New Zealand. Mr Ricketts will remain on the boards as a non-executive director until the end of this year.

Group Chairman Christine McLoughlin praised Mr Ricketts for his immense contribution to Suncorp during his time as chair.

“The New Zealand business is in a strong position and I would like to thank Geoff for the expert governance he has provided,” she said.

Ms McLoughlin said David Flacks was well positioned to take over the role as chair, having spent the past six years on the Vero and Vero Liability boards, and four years on the Asteron Life board.

About David Flacks:

David has a number of governance roles and is also a leading corporate lawyer with boutique corporate law firm Flacks & Wong. He was previously a senior corporate partner of Bell Gully and was general counsel and company secretary of Carter Holt Harvey during the 1990’s.

David is chair of the NZX Regulatory Governance Committee, AFT Pharmaceuticals Limited and chair or director of a number of other organisations across a range of sectors.

He is a former member of the Takeovers Panel and chair of the NZ Markets Disciplinary Tribunal.

David joined the boards of Vero Insurance New Zealand Limited and Vero Liability Insurance Limited in 2013, and Asteron Life Limited in 2015.
